VVS by Simmons
Tanice and I made an informed choice to create our luxury jewelry brand using natural diamonds. Why, you may ask? Everyone is talking about the sustainability and environmental impact of lab-grown diamonds.
Lab-grown diamonds are often considered “cheaper” and “environmentally friendly”.
Yes, we agree there’s a place for lab-grown diamonds in the marketplace. However, we have a deep-rooted desire to ensure that VVS by Simmons lives beyond us as an heirloom luxury brand. The emergence of lab-grown diamonds is a relatively new phenomenon. There’s a glut of supply and instability in the trading arena regarding the pricing structure and resell value. We wanted to ensure our diamonds are true to our name. We did not want to gamble with your investment.
The French Government has recently ruled that Diamonds produced in a Laboratory cannot be called Lab Grown Diamonds. 9th February 2024 the World Federation of Diamond Bourses (Diamond Trading Centres) commended the French Ministry of Economy and Finance for its decision to ban the use of all terminology other than synthetic for non-natural diamonds. The decision means the use of the term Lab Grown or Cultivated Diamonds will not be legal in France.
Natural diamonds and lab-grown diamonds have distinct environmental footprints.
However, the disparity in environmental impact does not imply that natural diamonds lack positive contributions. In reality, natural diamond mining operations can positively affect various aspects of the environment and local communities.
Therefore, while lab-grown diamonds may offer environmental benefits in certain
aspects, natural diamonds also play a vital role in sustainable practices and contribute positively to environmental and social welfare.
If De Beers were to cease diamond mining operations in Botswana, it would have
significant economic and social ramifications for both the country and the people.
VVS by Simmons guarantees their natural diamonds are conflict free with accordance of the Kimberely Process. Our diamonds are not blood diamonds, they are the life blood of Africa.
